What is vitiligo ?
Vitiligo is a relatively common affection in which abnormal skin pigmentation. Vitiligo disorder is manifested by the presence of well defined light spots on the skin. The formation of these spots in the skin is due to destruction (damage) and the functional or inactivity of melanocytes.
Melanocytes are cells that produce pigment in the skin. Melanocytes in the skin than are other places, and therefore can be affected more hairs, and less and mucous membranes. Affects the spread of vitiligo may be different. Bright spots stand out from the normal pigmented skin. Therefore vitiligo is most noticeable in people with darker skin.
Vitiligo is a condition that can cause psychological discomfort. People with vitiligo may suffer from lower self-esteem, depression, are more isolated and can interfere with social and even sexual intercourse. In some cases, vitiligo can cause loss of employment.
